Create a Kraken API Key

Set up your read-only Kraken API key

This tutorial guides you step by step to create a read-only Kraken API key needed to automatically sync your transactions.

⚠️

NEVER enable trading or withdrawal permissions. Taxes Crypto only needs read permissions to import your data securely.

Log in to Kraken

Go to kraken.com and log in. Navigate to Settings > Security > API.

💡 Always verify you are on the official kraken.com website to avoid phishing.

Click Create Key. Give it a descriptive name like 'Taxes Crypto - Read Only'.

💡 Choose a clear name to easily identify your key in the list.

Check only Query Funds and Query Open Orders & Trades. NEVER enable trading or withdrawal permissions.

💡 With query-only permissions, no trading or withdrawal operations are possible through this key.

Copy the API key and private secret. The secret won't be shown again after this step.

💡 The private secret is only shown once. If you lose it, you will need to create a new API key.

Go back to Taxes Crypto, select Kraken on the Platforms page and paste your API key and secret.

💡 Make sure to paste the full key without any extra spaces before or after.
